Dexcom G7 Current in AU

The flagship. All-in-one sensor/transmitter, 10-day wear plus a 12-hour grace period, 30-minute warm-up, approved from age 2 (arm or abdomen; upper buttocks for ages 2-6). Treatment decisions without routine fingerpricks.

Dexcom ONE+ Current in AU

The simplified, lower-cost CGM - positioned in Australia for type 2 diabetes and suitable for gestational diabetes. Essential alerts, same 10-day wear, app or optional receiver. No insulin-pump connectivity. Successor to the original Dexcom ONE.

• Private pay - $66.90 per sensor through the AMSL online shop (10-day wear); rewards program available
• Not on the NDSS CGM subsidy list (subsidy is a type 1 scheme)
• DVA funding available for eligible veterans

Dexcom G6 Being discontinued

AMSL Diabetes is discontinuing G6. The G6 transmitter (NDSS code 955) and sensor (code 960) are delisted from the NDSS from 1 October 2026 (announced 10 July 2026).

• Patients still on G6 must be moved to another CGM (usually G7) by their diabetes health professional - the switch is not automatic
• Practical move: flag G6 patients now and switch them before the October rush

Dexcom G7 15 Day Coming, not yet in AU

The next sensor: up to 15.5 days of wear (12-hour grace included), MARD 8%, for adults 18+. Launched in the US in December 2025; approved in Canada with availability expected early 2027. Not yet available in Australia - watch for the TGA/NDSS listing.

Stelo by Dexcom US only

Dexcom's over-the-counter biosensor for adults 18+ not on insulin - 15-day wear, no prescription, sold direct at stelo.com. It is a US product only; there is no Australian launch and it is not TGA-listed here. Patients asking about "the over-the-counter Dexcom" mean this.

Receivers vs phone-only

G7 and ONE+ both work phone-only (iOS or Android) or with an optional dedicated touchscreen receiver. In Australia the receiver is an out-of-pocket extra - it is not subsidised through the NDSS - and matters for patients whose phones are not on the compatibility list.

Dexcom Clarity - patient

The retrospective reporting platform: AGP, trends, time-in-range. Patients register free; data flows automatically from the G7/ONE+ app (internet required). The G7 app also shows a built-in Clarity card on its home screen.

Dexcom Clarity - clinic portal

The practice side: register the clinic free, invite patients, and patients authorise sharing with the clinic's code. View, print and compare AGP/trend/overlay reports. This is the portal to set up before a CGM-heavy diabetes clinic.

Dexcom Follow

Remote monitoring for family and carers: the wearer's built-in Share feature lets up to 10 followers see real-time glucose and alerts on their own phones - including across countries. Separate app for the follower.

G7 and ONE+ apps

The sensor's own display apps. Both support Share/Follow, event logging, Clarity cards and Apple Watch apps; G7 adds Direct to Watch, predictive alerts and pump pairing. Check the patient's phone before prescribing.

Tandem t:slim X2 (Control-IQ)

Hybrid closed loop with Dexcom G6 or G7. Distributed in Australia by AMSL.

Omnipod 5

Tubeless patch-pump AID, in Australia since March 2025. Compatible with Dexcom G6 and G7 (and FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus) - check the box for the sensor generation.

mylife YpsoPump + CamAPS FX ("myLoop")

Ypsomed's pump driven by the CamAPS FX app, now running with Dexcom G7 (G6 remains supported). Approved from age 1, including pregnancy.

Apple Watch and smartwatches

G7 is the only CGM that pairs directly with Apple Watch - readings and alerts on the wrist with the phone left behind. ONE+ and Android/Wear OS watches mirror from the phone, which must stay in range.

Smart pens

No Dexcom-connected smart insulin pen is currently marketed in Australia - the pen integrations on Dexcom's US partner list (e.g. InPen) are US products. The full partner list below shows what exists globally.

Glooko (via AMSL)

Clinic data-management platform distributed in Australia by AMSL: pulls Dexcom CGM, t:slim X2 and 100+ other devices into one patient view. Alternative/complement to Clarity for mixed-device practices.

Dexcom API

Public developer program: OAuth 2.0 retrospective access to user-authorised CGM data (EGVs, events, calibrations, devices), sandbox included. The basis of the 90+ partner apps and devices.

NDSS CGM subsidy

Every Australian with type 1 diabetes is eligible for subsidised CGM (G7 included since 1 March 2025); also under-21s with T1D-like conditions on insulin, and T1D pregnancy planning/pregnancy. Fully subsidised for under-21s and concession card holders; co-payment otherwise.

Private purchase

Type 2 patients outside the subsidy buy direct from AMSL's shop: ONE+ at $66.90 per 10-day sensor. Dexcom G7 is also available privately (and has been since August 2024).

DVA funding (RAP)

Since 1 November 2023, GPs can prescribe/request a CGM themselves for eligible DVA clients - Gold Card holders, or White Card holders with diabetes as an accepted condition - via the Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP) Diabetes Products Order Form. Clients are placed on a subscription with sensors delivered every 3 months. Worth checking for older veteran patients with type 2 diabetes who are not NDSS CGM-eligible.
